Who is the course for?

This eLearning course is aimed at individuals working in the UK who are required to carry out a work task using powered equipment, tools or machinery that vibrates.

Is previous experience required?

You do not need prior knowledge or experience to complete this course and it is assumed that you are competent in your designated role. You may need additional practical training to use specific items of powered equipment and machinery.

How will the course benefit me?

Hand-Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS) is a permanent and potentially disabling condition. This course will give you an understanding of the causes of hand-arm vibration and the measures you can take to protect yourself from harmful vibration.

The knowledge gained in this course will help you to stay safe in your day-to-day activities working with powered tools and equipment. It will also indicate the responsibilities that your employer has for protecting you from excessive levels of vibration.

How will the course benefit my company?

Employers and supplier of equipment have a legal duty to prevent the risks from exposure to vibration. By ensuring you are fully aware of how to work safely with vibrating equipment, you can help ensure that your company complies with regulations. You will also reduce the risk of developing symptoms of HAVS, which may otherwise prevent you from performing your work.

What standards are referenced in the course?

This course is written with reference to the UK Control of Vibration at Work Regulations and also uses current HSE guidelines and industry best practice throughout.

Is there an assessment?

Once you have completed the course, you will be asked a series of questions to check your knowledge and understanding. These are based on the learning objectives for the course and have a pass mark of 80%.
